Mise à jour

Marsouin is a research network in social sciences created in 2002 by the Britany Regional Council (France). It gathers scholars from the four universities of Bretagne and three prestigious schools. Marsouin consists of 19 labs, working on digital practices. About 200 scholars specialized in social sciences in Western France are part of Marsouin.

The network works on scientific projects supported by the ANR, the MSHB, territorial authorities or other public and private actors. Marsouin is an active member of the World Internet Project. It is a collaborative international project which includes countries from all the regions of the world. The WIP conducts detailed research, generates a wealth of publications and holds annual conferences looking at the impact of these new technologies.
For those reasons, Marsouin is a research network composed of experts in digital technologies and its societal impacts.

A unique system in France

Its uniqueness lays on the networking of multidisciplinary teams in human and social sciences. They share the same interest in studying how digital tools are transforming our life and society. Marsouin gives its members the opportunity to pool their tools: their methodological skills in one hand and a financial support for the research on the other hand.

  • Peoples Socially underpriviledged: Analysises of the Usage and of the Means to Expand them.

, by Annabelle Boutet-Diéye, Nicolas Jullien, Smaïl Hadj Ali

The success of the Internet and the growing number of the services paradoxically increase the gap between the users of the Internet and the people who became stangers to new technologies because of their geographical positions, their cultures or other forms of isolation.

Our project aims to study the initiatives taken to make these people use the Internet, so that the actions and trainings towards them can be improved. The brakes to the usage will be analysed from a research among social groups and from the actions made in parallel within a pioneer city in this kind of initiative: Brest, distinguished 4@ at the “Ville-Internet” label. A description of the usage developed by those who, in spite of their “e-society outsiders” profil, have appropriated these technologies. This project is realised in the context of the first call for projects on the usage of the Internet made by the French Ministry dedicated to Research and New Technologies. It is realised by M@rsouin, in partnership with the City of Brest. It was planned to last 18 months, from may 2004.

  • Detail of the EXPERT project

    , by Olivier Trédan

Personal and/or collective practices of publication are one of the innovating uses of the Internet that are developping the most quickly. Among them, personal websites which form information networks (named “Blogs”) when interconnected and tools/websites made for co-publication (websites based on SPIP) or for dialogue (Glasnost) can be distinguished.

We propose to study these usages in order to provide means of training available for the people distant from the Internet. These tools will be able to be re-used by other public authorities, local communities or associations.

On a longer term, the aim is to determine the methods concerning the ways these tools can be used to intensify the individual appropriation of the ICT, the public dialogue and the social integration.

This project is realized in the context of the first invitation to project on the usage of the Internet of the Ministry dedicated to Research and New Technologies. It is realised by M@rsouin, in partnership with the INFINI and Place Publique associations and the cities of Brest and Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy.

It is planned to last 18 months, from may 2004. A particular website is dedicated to this project.
